Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project conducts penultimate tests

The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project has “successfully completed” the mandatory penultimate tests before commissioning its first unit.

The purpose of the test is to evaluate the performance of high-precision steam relief valves at operating pressure and temperature. KKNPP sources claimed that no tests are harmful to the environment and the public living in and around the project site however the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) termed these tests are risky. They said these test produced fumes with unpleasant odour with thunderous noise which caused hardship to the people.

It said its activists would lay siege to the Anu Vijay Township, the residential complex of the KKNPP workers and engineers at Chettikulam, on 03/04/2012 to protest against the ongoing tests.
