Egypt declared national emergency

Egypt has declared a month-long state of emergency after scores of people were killed when security forces stormed two camps set up by supporters of the ousted President, Mohamed Morsy, as part of their campaign for his reinstatement.

The Government reports 149 deaths in clashes where as the Muslim Brotherhood says more than 2,000 people died in 14/08/2013 violence.

The Vice-President Mohamed El Baradei resigned, saying his conscience was troubled by loss of lives.
