Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag takes over as new Army Chief

Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag took over as the head of the 1.3 million strong force succeeding Gen Bikram Singh.

Gen Suhag assumed charge after his predecessor handed over to him the Chief of Army Staff baton in his South Block office in New Delhi.

The new Chief takes over at a time when the force is facing challenges of modernsation in its artillery, infantry and air defence arms and is also preparing itself for facing a possible multi-front war.

President appoints Governors

The President has been pleased to appoint the following as Governors:-

1. Shri Ram Naik as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh;

2. Shri Balramji Dass Tandon as the Governor of Chhattisgarh;

3. Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi as the Governor of West Bengal;

4. Shri Om Prakash Kohli as the Governor of Gujarat.

The above appointments will take effect from the dates the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices.

Former World Bank economist Ashraf Ghani won Afghanistan's presidential election, according to preliminary results released on Monday, with 56.4 percent of the run-off vote to Abdullah Abdullah's 43.5 percent.

Chief Justice Yatindra Singh of Bilaspur High Court administered the oath of office to Yadav in a function organized in Raipur at Raj Bhawan.

Justice Lodha sworn in as 41st Chief Justice of India

Justice Rajendra Mal Lodha, the senior most judge of the Supreme Court, was on 27-04-2014 sworn in as the 41st Chief Justice of India by President Pranab Mukherjee. 

The 64-year-old Justice Lodha took over from Justice (retd) P. Sathasivam who demitted office on 26-04-2014 after nine months as the head of the judiciary.

Robin K Dhowan is the New Navi Chief


Robin K Dhowan on 17-April-2014 took over as chief of the Indian Navy nearly two months after D K Joshi quit the post in the wake of a series of mishaps.


 



Admiral Dhowan, 59, who has been the acting Navy chief since Joshi's exit, has been appointed the Chief of Navy Staff superseding Western Naval Commander Shekhar Sinha

Nepali Congress leader Sushil Koirala elected as the Prime Minister of Nepal

Nepali Congress leader Sushil Koirala was 10-Feb-2014 elected Prime Minister of Nepal with the support of the CPN-UML, ending months of political instability following last year's elections.

Koirala, the sole contestant in the premier race, was elected with 405 votes in the 601-member Constituent Assembly.

Indian-born Satya Nadella is the new CEO Microsoft

Indian born Satya Nadella was  as the new CEO of 78 billion USD  Microsoft Corporation who would succeed the retiring Steve Balmer.

The Hyderabad-born Nadella is the third CEO of Microsoft and

the first Indian to head the world's largest software firm in its 38-year history.

Nadella, along with Google's Sundar Pichai, were the contenders for the top job.

John Thompson, who is currently lead independent director, will succeed Microsoft founder Bill Gates as Chairman.

Justice Mathur to head 7th Central Pay Commission


Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has approved composition of the 7th Pay Commission, which will revise the salaries of over 50 lakh central government employees.

Former Supreme Court Justice Ashok Kumar Mathur has been appointed as chairman of the Commission, with Oil Secretary Vivek Rae as full time Member.

Rathin Roy (Director, NIPFP) will be part-time Member and Meena Agarwal (OSD, Department of Expenditure) its Secretary.

The Commission has been mandated to submit its report in two years time and its recommendations would be implemented from January 1, 2016.

Railway appoints 4 new General Managers



The Government has decided to fill up the vacancies lying vacant for months.


Rajiv Vishnoi  is the new General Manager (GM) of East Coast Railway

Navin Tandon is the new General Manager GM of South east Central Railway.

Hemant Kumar , has been appointed as GM of Western Railway

P K Srivastava is the new GM of South Central Railway.


A K Aggarwal who was in the Railway Organisation of Alternate Fuel has been moved to Integral Coach Factory in Chennai as its GM.

Railways have recently filled up all vacant posts at the Board level by appointing A K Mittal as Member (Staff) and Alok Johri as Member (Mechanical).

Harish Rawat sworn in as new Uttarakhand CM

Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat was sworn in as the eighth Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
 
Mr.  Rawat was administered the oath of office by Governor Aziz Qureshi at Raj Bhawan lawns along with a 11-member Cabinet all of whom were ministers in the Bahuguna government.

Rawat's name was approved by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, senior party leader Janardhan Dwivedi told reporters here after a five-hour-long meeting of the Congress Legislature Party. Rawat was Union Cabinet Minister for Water Resources.

Ms. Susieben Shah, takes chargeas Maharashtra women’s commission chief



Ms Susieben Shah, assumed office as the chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) along with six members.  The posts were lying vacant for four years till a petition was filed in the Bombay High Court recently seeking action.

The Aam Aadmi Party had opposed Ms. Shah’s appointment as a victim of sexual harassment wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan alleging that Ms. Shah had derailed her case.

Supreme Court collegiums recommended Justice Agrawal, Justice Ramana to be Chief Justices of Madras, Delhi HCs.


The Supreme Court collegium has recommended that the acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Rajesh Kumar Agrawal be made its Chief Justice.
 
The acting chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court Justice N.V. Ramana  will be Justice of the Delhi High Court.

The seniormost judge of the High Court, Justice R. Banumathi, has been recommended to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.

Justice N.V. Ramana, acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, will be the new Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. At present, there is no judge from the Andhra Pradesh High Court holding the post of Chief Justice in any High Court.

Secretary, Department of Justice in the Ministry of Law & Justice. She had earlier
served as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.  Prior to this appointment  Smt. Kaul was the Principal Secretary Planning in the Programme Implementation Department of the Govt. of Karnataka
