Special National Investment Fund created

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved creation of the Special National Investment Fund for the specific objective of meeting the minimum public shareholding of 10 percent requirement in the following six Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs).

(i) Andrew Yule & Company Ltd.
(ii) Fertilizers & Chemicals (Travancore) Ltd.
(iii) Hindustan Photo Films Manufacturing Co. Ltd.
(iv) HMT Ltd.
(v) ITI Ltd.
(vi) Scooters India Ltd. 


Union Cabinet approves amendment to the Right to Information Act, 2005

The Union Cabinet has approved introduction of a Bill in the coming session of the Parliament to amend the Right to Information Act, 2005, to exclude the political parties from the definition of Public authority for the purpose of the Act.

The Central Information Commission (CIC) in its decision dated 03.06.2013, has held that the political parties, namely, AICC/INC, BJP, CPI(M), CPI, NCP, and BSP are public authorities under Section 2(h) of the RTI Act. While deciding that the said political parties are public authorities, the CIC has relied mainly on the grounds that there is substantial (indirect) financing of political parties by the Central Government and they perform public duty. 



Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar Retires and Bhim Sain Bassi takes charge as new Commissioner



The Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar retired from his office on 31 July 2013. He served to the police force for 37 years. At the end of his career , he came under criticism after the rape of para medical student and a five-year-old girl  However, Neeraj Kumar and his police force unearthed  the scam of spot fixing in Indian Premier League (IPL). 

 Bhim Sain Bassi, the 1977-batch IPS officer, took over the charge as the next Delhi Police Commissioner on 31 July 2013. He succeeded Neeraj Kumar. The chief of the Delhi Police, said the security of women would be given priority and special arrangements will be made to check incidents such as eve-teasing in buses and other areas to ensure that the feminine gender feels safe in the national capital


 

Aditya Mehta lifts snooker gold medal in the World Games




 India's number one snooker player, Aditya Mehta clinched the gold medal in the World Games,  in Cali, Columbia. beating China's Liang Wenbo, 3-0, in the final Aditya Mehta hails from Mumbai. Aditya won a Silver and a Bronze medal in Men's Snooker Team and Men's Snooker Singles respectively, at the 2010 Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China.

India's Success at 54th International Mathematics Olympiad



A six member team India, sponsored by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), an Institution under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai has bagged Two Silver & Three Bronze Medals at the 54th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2013 held at Santa Marta, Colombia during July 18-28, 2013. A total of 528 students from 97 countries participated in the event.

National Archives of India Launches e-Abhilekh

The quarterly newsletter of the National Archives of India entitled e-Abhilekh was launched by the Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Shri Ravindra Singh . This news bulletin has been planned with the objective of disseminating information for the development of Archives.

National Teeka Express was launched

The National Teeka Express was launched by Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare  at Alwar, Rajasthan today. It has been launched to protect children from life-threatening childhood diseases.


In the Routine Immunization Programme ANMs collect vaccines from storage point (cold chain point) and transport them to session sites, i.e. either Sub-centre or Anganwari centre for carrying out vaccination.
